Brief
Policy NZ is an organisation that creates an accessible, jargon-free online database of all parties’ policies prior to New Zealand’s general elections. It allows users to compare policies within topics, and users can save policies or view policies with party or candidate names hidden. I initially joined as an Assistant Editor and conducted research and wrote copy to help create the database. I then served as Policy NZ’s Social Media Manager and was tasked with growing its following and brand awareness.
Solution
Different groups (renters, immigrants, retirees, new parents, etc) were targeted with content that informed them of how they might be affected by different election outcomes. I also ran weekly quizzes and competitions to drive engagement and encourage people to think about whether they felt fully knowledgeable about their election options.
During my time as Social Media Manager, Policy NZ gained 32% more followers, 258% more impressions per month and a 45% greater audience reach than prior. Around one in six New Zealanders viewed the database, and it received news coverage from national media like Radio New Zealand and the New Zealand Herald.
